UMPIRE NETBALL
Noosa Netball Association runs an umpiring program for beginners, juniors and seniors alike. Umpiring is a fantastic way to give back to the sport, build confidence, make new friends, and even improve your own netball skills by deepening your understanding of the rules.

Umpires play a vital role in keeping the game safe, fair, and fun for everyone.

To kick off your umpiring journey, here are some key qualities and skills that make a great umpire. Don’t worry if you don’t have them all yet , they’ll develop as you gain experience.

-
Know the rules of netball – you can’t umpire well if you don’t understand them.
-
Maintain good fitness – you’ll need to keep up the same intensity for the whole game (no rolling subs for umpires!).
-
Communicate clearly – both with your voice and hand signals (we’ll teach you these).
-
Be fair and consistent – every call counts.
-
Blow your whistle loudly – so everyone hears it.
-
Be confident – this comes naturally as you master the rules.
-
Enjoy a challenge – every game is different.
-
Accept the tough days – players have off games too.
-
Learn from mistakes – move on quickly and keep going.
-
Stay calm under pressure – focus on the game in front of you.
-
Dress appropriately – just as players wear uniforms, umpires should present professionally.
-
Smile – there’s nothing in the rule book that says you can’t!
-
Have fun
